There is a science behind getting the most out of your eyelash extension adhesives. The first tip is to always refer to your adhesive as an adhesive and not a glue. These products are medical grade adhesives and not the same as a glue So, it’s important to use the right terminology when speaking to clients and other professionals. Here is the dish:
Our team at LAshX tells you all about the science behind eyelash adhesives (eyelash glue) and provides you with tips on proper usage and care so that you can work with it in a professional manner and maximize your results.
What is it made of?
The primary ingredient in eyelash extension glue is a chemical called cyanoacrylate. Cyanoacrylate is an acrylic resin that reacts fast when in contact with water and creates adhesive properties. This chemical is found in products that are used in household, medical, and industrial settings. There are differences in types of cyanoacrylates and some low grades are used in products such as superglue, but high-end medical grades were developed for use in the body and can be extremely safe.
Using an eyelash extension adhesive with the right type and quality of cyanoacrylate is crucial. This ensures that your lash extensions last a long time, are healthy on the natural lash and also avoid allergic reactions from occurring. How do you know what type of cyanoacrylate is in your adhesive? You can check with the manufacturer SDS sheet. It should be called out. Also, a quick way to tell is the thicker and the blacker the adhesive, the lower the quality. In very toxic industrial grade adhesives, companies will add lots of carbon to try and counter the fumes. This results in a very thick black adhesive.

How do I use and store it?
When you’re applying eyelash extensions, the best way to use your eyelash extension adhesive (glue) is to start by pouring a small amount onto a flat surface. When you do this, the outside edge of the puddle will polymerize and harden first, so to ensure even application, it’s best to dip the lash into the middle.
It’s important to avoid using a cotton applicator, such as cotton balls or swabs. Cyanoacrylate reacts quickly with cotton and releases extreme heat which can cause burns. Avoid cotton eye pads or tape near the application area. Make sure your client is not wearing a cotton mask.
Store the eyelash glue in a sealed container and a cool cupboard. Ensure that this cupboard is away from heating or cooling systems to maintain a steady, cool temperature. These steps will prevent the adhesive from drying out, but it’s always a good idea to replace it every three months to keep it fresh. Keep your bottle upright to avoid the cap getting glued shut.

Here are some techniques from our team at LAshX to help you use your lash adhesive the right way in order to get the longest lash retention possible.
Use Small Amounts
It’s always a good idea to start with a small amount of adhesive when you go to apply your lash extensions. Start by pouring a little drop on a flat surface. If the drop loses its raised dome, drop a new fresh drop. This will ensure that your entire lash is getting adhesive on it when you load the lash.
Activate the Adhesive
Shimmy your classic lash back and forth in your adhesive to activate it. When doing volume, rotate your hand so only the base of the fan goes straight up and down into the adhesive to activate.
Avoid Cotton
Lash adhesive contains a chemical called cyanoacrylate. Cyanoacrylate does not mix well with cotton as it causes it to react rapidly and emits exothermic heat, which can be very dangerous when coming in contact with skin. To avoid this, stay away from cotton applicators and wipes such as cotton swabs, balls, or tissues.
Store Properly
Proper storage is a very important factor in keeping your lash adhesive fresh. Store your adhesive upright, and in a cool, dark cupboard. You do not want it to freeze or get heat above 85 oF. Do not expose your bottle to direct sunlight. You may store your adhesive in the refrigerator if you are not going to use it for an extended period of time, but make sure you bring it to room temperature for 2 hours before working with it. The cooler the adhesive, the thicker it is going to seem. Unopened bottles of Lashx Speed Adhesive last 12 months from manufacturing and 3 months once they have been opened.
